This week’s Pastures of Plenty broadcasts a wide variety of entertaining folk music, from Eliza Gilkyson, Hobo Jim, The Secret Sisters and Guy Clark, to name a few of the musicians we’ve called upon.
We’re going to be featuring a popular folk music group from the 1960’s, The Kingston Trio, during the seven o’clock hour of the show today. I selected two of my favorites: "Greenback Dollar" from 1963 and "M.T.A." from 1959, the story of Charlie’s endless ride on the Boston area subway. To quote Wikipedia: "In 1961, the Trio was described as "the most envied, the most imitated, and the most successful singing group, folk or otherwise, in all show business" and "the undisputed kings of the folksinging rage by every yardstick." Times have certainly changed, again and again since then, but I still think they’re groovy.
