Rick Mitchell presents a special episode of Jazz In the New Millennium on Portland drummer and Jazz Journalist Association Jazz Hero Mel Brown. The program will examine Brown's career from his early years in the organ trio Billy Larkin and the Delegates and with Motown groups Martha and the Vandellas and the Temptations to his return to Portland in the 1970s, where he helped nurture a flourishing jazz scene that continues to this day, and with his long-running band, the Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group.
at 3pm, Mel will be in the studio, and Rick will interview him during the breaks between music segments. Jazz In the New Millennium is nationally syndicated through the African American Public Radio Consortium and past episodes can be found as podcasts on KBOO's website.
