There's an old saying in the Pacific NW that summer starts on July 5th. Summer came a little early this year, and in celebration we start off with songs for summer by Doc Watson & David Greisman, Loudon Wainwright III, and Taj Mahal, followed by songs about canoeing by Portland’s own Shanghaied on the Willamette and Canadians Eileen McGann and Sue McBride.
KBOO will be broadcasting the Annual Waterfront Blues Festival live on July 4-7 as we have since the first event in 1987. To whet your appetite next up you’ll hear from Portland greats who have appeared at past festivals and will be performing this year including Mary Flower, Curtis Salgado & Alan Hager, Lloyd Jones, Terry Robb, Paul deLay & Linda Hornbuckle.
The Waterfront Blues Festival has been featuring artists whose music falls outside of the strict blues genre, and this year include KBOO Folk Strip favorites Leyla McCall, Dustbowl Revival, and Portland’s Ashleigh Flynn & the Riveters, who are featured next.
Finally, you’ll hear great new music from Chris Smither, Sierra Hull, Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Laurie Lewis.
