Ox Sam Camp carries on fight to protect Thacker Pass

Today's guest is Dorece Sam, an enrolled member of the Fort McDermitt Paiute Shoshone tribe and a descendnt of Ox Sam, a survivor of the September 12, 1865 massacre at Thacker Pass.

Sam has been involved with the Ox Sam Camp, an Indigenous-led prayer camp at Peehee Mu’huh (aka Thacker Pass) in Northern Nevada. since it started. She was served a Temporary Restraining Order on Friday May 19, to try to prevent her from continuing her prayerful and peaceful resistance at the site.

Also known as Newe Momokonee Nokotun (or Indigenous Women’s Camp), Ox Sam Camp is the base camp for the resistance against the world’s largest open pit lithium mine.

The Paiute-Shoshone elders leading the protest camp are asking for supporters from far and wide to come take part in an ongoing ceremony of protection for these waters and this land.
