How's the war economy working for you?

That's the question many Americans will be asking on March 19, the eighth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. U.S. policymakers have little to show for eight years of fighting in Iraq and nine years of war in Afghanistan other than billions of dollars diverted from the U.S. economy to sustain these conflicts. Who pays the price?

This week on Voices from the Edge, Jo Ann and Dave will examine who is bearing the burden of America's overseas military adventures. Their guest will be Wray Harris, president of the Oregon Chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Harris served as an infantryman for 13 months in Iraq and currently works with veterans and others to bring attention to the impacts the war is having at home and abroad. Dave and Jo Ann will also talk about the rally and march starting at 1 pm on March 19 at downtown's Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Jo Ann Bowman is a former state legislator, former executive director of Oregon Action, and a long-time leader in the struggle for racial and economic justice. Dave Mazzais a freelance journalist and former editor of The Portland Alliance who has covered and been involved in Portland's civil rights, peace, labor and environmental movements for 20 years.
