What is more essential to not just Halloween but the fall season than the magnificent pumpkin?
This venerable fruit - first cultivated perhaps nine thousand years ago (!) - replaced potatoes & turnips as the vessel of choice for making jack o'lanterns when those stories found their way to these shores. & even before that they were a symbol of the autumn harvest for many different native civilizations. & besides, they're quite tasty!
So for this year's Halloween episode, Self Help Radio decided to focus on the pumpkin - & not just in its Halloween context - different sets highlight differest aspect of that orange marvel. As well, guests come to discuss books & films featuring pumpkins, & a pumpkin farmer talks about his farm. & remarkably, host Gary talks to both the creator/writer & the star of the Evil Pumpkin Man horror movie franchise in advance of the premiere of the tenth movie this weekend!
Happy Halloween! Tell those pumpkins in front of your house someone made a radio show for them!
