This is democracy

In the midst of the most nerve wracking and unnerving election any of us in this country have ever experienced, how do we make sense of what’s going on, what should be going on and how not to go crazy keeping up with all the drama and suspense. On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Kristin Eberhard, Climate and Democracy Director with Sightline Institute, who has been researching and writing exhaustively about every stage of the struggle to keep the 2020 election fair and democratic. We’re recording on Thursday, November 5, while the presidential election still hangs in the balance as votes are being counted in several swing states. But Saturday morning we found out that Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States. This show may remind you of all the anxiety and stress you felt all during this year's election week. But at least as you listen, you'll know that it ended well.

Kristin Eberhard, director, climate and democracy, is a proud policy wonk and a member of Sightline's management team. Her new book Becoming a Democracy: How We Can Fix Gerrymandering, the Electoral College, and Our Elections is coming out in November 2020.
