We humans pride ourselves on our singular intelligence and sensitivity, but each day brings new stories about the the intelligence and depth of feeling experienced by other animals. The Animals' Agenda makes a strong case that it is past time we use what we know about inner lives of animals on their behalf. Co-authored by behavioral ecologist Marc Bekoff and bio-ethicist Jessica Pierce, the book explores the real world experiences of animals used for food, research and entertainment, and also the lives of companion animals and those in the wild. Scientific studies and stories of individual animals bring home the wonder of our fellow beings, and the need for a major paradigm shift to truly ensure their (and our own) well-being, in an increasingly human-dominated world.
Marc Bekoff discusses the Animals' Agenda with host Stephanie Potter. Dr. Bekoff is a field biologist who specializes in non-human animal behavior, and is professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He's won various research awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship and has published numerous books and essays, including The Ten Trusts with Jane Goodall, The Emotional Lives of Animals, and Rewilding our Hearts.
