Exploring the in-between parts of Grateful Dead songs and set lists.
Welcome to Part 3 of the 'Who Needs Songs?' special, an exploration of what this show sounds like without any songs. Long synonymous with extended improvisational jamming, the Grateful Dead don't always need songs.
Today I'm going to offer you nothing but prime examples of this. And as an added twist, I've chosen excerpts in such a way that it will very difficult for the listener to determine what song the jam is in, came out of or is going into. Or so I think. Here are parts 1 and 2 and 4 (the finale).
