Barbara Harvey talks with Bill Resnick about the Boycott Divestment Sanctions movement

Bill Resnick talks with attorney Barbara Harvey about the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement. Barbara explains BDS is a nonviolent form of resistance to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, aiming to ensure not only the end to Israeli occupation, but also equal rights for Palestinian citizens of Israel, and recognition of Palestinians' right to return to their homes. The movement began in 2005 in a united call from almost all of Palestinian civil society, and seeks to place economic pressure not only on companies doing business with Israel, but also on all businesses that support the occupation directly or indirectly. Barbara and Bill discuss the roles of Caterpillar (which provides bulldozers for destroying Palestinian homes) and the French company Veolia, which provides light rail and buses in Israel (as well as water treatment processing and airport shuttles in the USA). Barbara describes the dangers of Israel's willingness to reserve democracy for the majority, and the risk of blowback for any group willing to dehumanize others.
