Black History and Resisting its Whitewashing: Frann Michel hosts this episode featuring these segments:
Kent Ford: Walking and Talking with a Panther: Selections from a talk by Kent Ford, co-founder of the Portland chapter of the Black Panther Party. Ford helped lead the Panthers’ Free Breakfast for School Children Program in Portland and currently leads Black Panther Legacy Tours in the Albina neighborhood. He is the subject of the solo play “Walking through Portland with a Panther: The Life of Mr. Kent Ford.” Audio courtesy of the WSU DocArts Program.
Left and the Law: Toppling Monumental Racism: In honor of Black History Month, Jan Haaken and Mike Snedeker start their Left & the Law segment with Trump's executive order in early 2025 to rewrite American history. The order directed various departments of the federal government to remove references to slavery and Black history from museums, parks, and military bases across the country. Jan and Mike discuss earlier waves of white nationalism that followed periods of advancement for Black people and how the Trump regime's white nationalism re-enacts that same history. They also take up projects in the South that are bold and creative in resisting this white-washing of history.
