On this edition of Prison Pipeline: Justice As Healing.

In Massachusetts, a coalition of advocacy organizations is working to oppose Governor Maura Healey's proposed $360 million prison complex at MCI-Framingham. They’re calling for an immediate action to stop construction, disclose all planning information, review every woman for release, and improve current conditions. The coalition held a news conference on September 11 to announce their opposition.

We’ll hear portions of that news conference including presentations by Angelia Jefferson, Women's Participatory Defense Coordinator and formerly incarcerated expert at Families for Justice as Healing; Mallory Hanora, Co-Director at Families for Justice as Healing; Nithya Badrinath, Policy Director at Jane Doe Inc.; Jasmin Borges, Director of Organizing and formerly incarcerated expert at Mass Bail Fund; Dr. Christine Mitchell, Health Instead of Punishment Program Director at Health in Partnership; and Sarah Nawab, Staff Attorney and Women’s Incarceration and Reentry Project Director at Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts.
