On the next episode of Radiozine, we’ll explore Cuba’s world-renowned health care system and the ways it has continued to thrive in the face of economic hardship and decades of U.S. sanctions. While often under-reported in the U.S., Cuba has built a system that prioritizes community health, prevention, and international solidarity, training thousands of doctors who serve both in Cuba and around the world.

We’ll be joined by Dr. Michael C Huntington and John Waller, who are helping to organize a panel discussion taking place on Saturday, October 4th at 2pm at the Albina Library in Portland. That event will also feature Dr. Samira Addrey, a physician with deep experience in Cuban medical training and practice. Together, our guests will discuss how Cuban health care has achieved so much with so little, what we can learn from it here in the U.S., and why it’s important to raise awareness about the harmful impact U.S. sanctions continue to have on everyday people in Cuba.

This conversation is part of a broader effort by Portland supporters of Cuba to share stories of resilience, achievement, and international solidarity that challenge mainstream narratives about the island. By highlighting the success of Cuba’s health system and the barriers imposed by sanctions, the organizers hope to inspire greater public understanding and engagement.

Join us for this timely and important conversation on Frday Sept 26 at 10:00am on 90.7 FM KBOO Community Radio in Portland, streaming live at kboo.fm.
