It’s time again for my annual all-women’s Swing ‘n’ Country show! March is a great month to celebrate the accomplishments of women in country music and I’ll be bringing you an all-new episode jam-packed with great women singers, songwriters and players. We’ll explore the early decades of recorded country music from the ‘20s through the ‘50s, then head right into the heyday of country music, the ‘60s and beyond, with a special focus on a select group of singer/songwriters. You’ll hear the first song by a female country artist to go gold, selling a million records; you’ll hear the title track from the first album by a female country artist to go gold; you’ll hear the first #1 hit recorded by a female artist back in 1952 AND you’ll hear from Jenny Lou Carson who wrote the first song by a woman to have a #1 hit on the country charts (recorded by Tex Ritter in 1945).
