Portland Youth Philharmonic, America’s longest running youth orchestra, enters its second century this weekend. The opening concert for PYP’s historic 101st season takes place this Saturday, November 9th at Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
The program, conducted by PYP’s Musical Director David Hattner, features Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, William Grant Still’s Second Symphony, and Sensemaya, a piece by Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas.
To preview Saturday’s concert, we’re joined today by Hanami Froom, an 18 year-old alumna of PYP, and soloist on the program's Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky.
