Please join us on Monday, September 15tht at 5:30 pm on KBOO Community Radio for KBOO News In Depth this week with Moira Marquis about Prisoned Banned Books Week Sept 15th -21st. This national campaign aims to raise awareness that prisons are the largest censors in the US.

This year's focus will be on demanding that prison tablets offer incarcerated people public library catalogs. Right now, prison telecom companies charge exorbitant pricing for digital access to reading materials. The only free materials are from Project Gutenberg--which are 100 years old and largely very irrelevant titles such as A Concise Anglo-Saxon Dictionary For the Use of Students, published in 1894 and Blackie & Son's Books for Young People, a catalog of children's books that was available in England from 1886 to 1891. Prison Banned Books week aims to highlight issues with denying incarcerated people reading materials.
