Some of you may be aware that I have been a radio deejay here in Portland since 2006, and also for a while, from 2010 to 2015, I used to play records at several clubs and bars around town. I played at such places as The Someday Lounge, The Tube, Star Bar, East End, Bunk Bar, The World Famous Kenton Club, Beech Street Parlor, The Matador & Ground Kontrol. My nights at Ground Kontrol happened once a month for almost three years and I called the night "A Matter Of Public Records". I loved playing records there as the staff were very nice, helpful and seemed to appreciate the records I played. At the time I was playing records at bars, it felt like most of the other DJ's in town were playing soul records, so I wanted to a rock n' roll DJ. People seemed to enjoy my sets, but I never seemed to garner much in the way of acclaim.
Today's episode here on KBOO is a re-creation of a playlist from a night at Ground Kontrol in January 2015. The DJ sets at the bar were 4 hours long, and this show is only 3 hours long, so I did my best to play as many songs as I could in the time to which I am allowed.
Hope you enjoy the show.
