Artist, poet, musician, activist, and still, all these years later, a figure of endless fascination and (oft-ill-informed) debate. Among many other things, Yoko Ono has been the focus of two multi-artist tribute albums over the years, including the brand-new Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono, shepherded by Ben Gibbard of Seattle's Death Cab for Cutie, following 1984's Every Man Has a Woman, a project conceived by Yoko's late husband John Lennon, and completed after his death. Today on The Songcircle, we'll sample both these compilations, as well as the remix/collab collections entitled Yes, I'm a Witch and Yes, I'm a Witch, Too, including tracks by Lennon, Death Cab, Elvis Costello, Roberta Flack, Harry Nilsson, David Byrne with Yo La Tengo, Sparks, Cat Power, Rosanne Cash, The Flaming Lips, and more, as well as Yoko singing -- yes! -- her own songs.
