The show supports Juneteenth with songs from the "Black Cowboys" album.

The June 19th episode of Swing'n'Country includes a tip of the 10-gallon hat to the Juneteenth national holiday by featuring several songs from Dom Flemon's Black Cowboys album, which was issued in 2018 by the National Museum of African American History and Culture (Smithsonian Institution). The songs are in the second hour of the program.
 

Of course people still have to work to make a living. So the program also features several country songs about going to work, as the nation's economy gradually improves this year, despite problems filling some types of available jobs. The songs start with Merle Haggard's Workin' Man's Blues and end with Blowin' Smoke from Kacey Musgraves. Country songs about work are not always favorable, like Johnny Paycheck's 1977 smash hit Take This Job and Shove It.

 

There's plenty to enjoy in the rest of the program, from a broad range of country style music, some from the 1950s and some from this year. There's a set of swing music which includes a tune from Leelee Robert's Swing Set, which was named Best Western Swing Album of 2019 by the Academy of Western Artists. There's a couple of songs from Sheryl Crow, a couple songs from Billy Joe Shaver's Salt of the Earth album, a song from Merle Haggard and Clint Eastwood, and a song about strange doings in a tomato patch from Kate Campbell.

 

As usual, the show is all about the music. You can enjoy three hours of Swing'n'Country on KBOO every Saturday morning from 6 to 9. It's a great way to relax on a Saturday morning! Tell your friends.
