Tim Buckley had an amazing voice and a mercurial presence that has been captured over the years in various live recordings. This Friday, 4/23, on the SongCircle, Join me, guest host Phil G, as I interview Hawk Semins of the Owsley Stanley Foundation regarding their latest release “Bear's Sonic Journals-Tim Buckley Merry-Go-Round at the Carousel," a live recording from June 15-16, 1968; the only known recording of Buckley with this quartet. There are songs on this release that have never been heard performed by Buckley before.
We’ll delve into the music and the work of the Owsley Stanley Foundation to preserve 1300 (!) reels of live recordings done by Owsley (AKA Bear). We’ll play a few tracks from the recording, as well as some other Buckley cuts, and some of Tim’s contemporaries, Fred Neil, Karen Dalton, and others.
Tune in and turn it up!
