The Grateful Dead return after an involuntary hiatus.

 

A combination of unhealthy habits caused Jerry Garcia to drop into a diabetic coma in July 1986. 

While hospitalized, his heart stopped; afterward, he was on a respirator for 48 hours until he could breathe independently. 

The coma trashed his neural pathways and Jerry essentially forgot how to play music.  Fortunately, friends helped him remember.

Today, I'm featuring music from the band's return to the stage, though these are not Garcia's first shows post-coma.
