News, Views and Interviews from a Socialist, Feminist Perspective

Laurie Mercier hosts this Episode of the Old Mole which includes:

Fossil Fuel Resistance: Desiree Hellegers interviews Dr. Melanie Plaut, MD, Co-lead of the Fossil Fuel Resistance Team at 350 PDX about recent developments in the fight to stop the Jordan Cove LNG export terminal and about the  trial of the "Zenith Five," beginning Monday.

False Ideals: Sharon Grant reads from Nikole Hannah-Jones' stunning, daring, wonderful essay: Our Democracy’s Founding Ideals were False When They were Written. Black Americans Fought to Make it True." The essay traces 400 years of Black history in the territory now the United States. It demonstrates that Black struggle for liberty and democracy had crucial and highly positive impacts on the development of the US political system, greatly democratizing this country, though always furiously opposed by conservative interests. There is still a long way to go to build a society that lives up to its ideals, especially for the Black Americans who led past struggles.

African Film Fest: Laurie talks to Tracy Francis, director of the Cascade Festival of African Films, which winds up this week with films devoted to women filmmakers.
