Join host Isabelle Sinclair for a discussion with Joshua Wright of Liberation Literacy, who, while still incarcerated in Columbia River Correctional Institution (CRCI), helped found their inside/out reading group in 2016. Joshua has also worked with numerous other organizations, including Living Yoga and Pheonix Rising Transitions; join us on this episode of Prison Pipeline as we discuss the inequity of the prison structure that led to the radical establishment of Liberation Literacy, and which forms the heart of Joshua's work.
The mission of Liberation Literacy is to build social justice literacy in prisons in order to reimagine and re-articulate the relationship between incarceration, our community, and ourselves. They have established a Freedom Library currently holding about 500 books on the topic social justice and the African diaspora, which is available to the entire CRCI community. There is also a corresponding monthly reading group for those in Portland, as well as for anyone who was previously incarcerated and wishes to continue participating.
