Elementary School Challenges

Bill Resnick interviews Rachel Hanes an outstanding 2nd grade teacher and a member of the Portland Association of Teachers Union.  She serves on the union’s environmental education committee. In this first part of a two-part interview, Bill and Rachel discuss the challenges faced by elementary teachers without help in a classroom of 30-plus students where they are required to administer standardized student testing beginning even in kindergarten. Part Two of the interview will be aired next week.
