Industrial Accident: The Story of Wax Trax Records
Directed by Julia Nash
United States • 2018 • 95 mins. • In English
"Wax Trax Records, a beloved record shop and label based in Chicago, has been a crucial resource for a generation of independent musicians and fans, providing access to hard-to-find records and releasing some of the most forward-thinking industrial music of the 80s and 90s. Founded in 1975 in Denver by Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, the shop was an immediate hit with locals and touring bands. The pair moved to Chicago in 1978 to usher in a golden period and deeply influence an up-and-coming scene that became an epicenter of independent music. Detailing the rise, temporary fall, and legacy of Wax Trax, director Julia Nash sensitively brings many threads to light, including the centrality of thriving brick-and-mortar record shops on local music scenes and the importance of independent record labels as arbiters of good taste. Wax Trax Records, truly a labor of love over its 40+ year history, has been these things and so much more."
