Pseudo-Nazi Plane Crashes

A World-War-Two-era war plane bearing Nazi-era markings crashed and burned yesterday on Highway One-Oh-One in California.

The plane was actually a US-manufactured trainer built in 1942, in use as a prop for air-show mock dogfights. The pilot, Rob Sandberg, who works for the nonprofit show outfit Condor Squadron, was unharmed, and no one on the ground was hurt, as the plane burned into pieces after landing.

In history, the real Condor Squadron was Adolf Hitler’s contribution to the winning Fascist side, in the Spanish Civil War of 1936 and 1937. The famous Picasso painting Guernica shows the horror of the bombings by the original Condor Squadron. The pilot in yesterday’s crash was working for an entertainment group started in 1965 by US Air Force veterans of World War Two.

The bizarre incident sparked many comments on social media, with posters asking whether a time and space wormhole had opened up, or whether the incident represented an omen for the upcoming midterm elections.

Bomb Sent to Home of Hilary Clinton

A bomb was discovered in a package sent to the home of Hilary and Bill Clinton in New York, police say.

The suspicious package is similar to the one left at billionaire philanthropist George Soros just two days ago. Other packages that reportedly contained explosives were also sent to former President Barack Obama, the white house, the Time-Warner headquarters, which is CNN’s New York offices, and a Florida building housing the offices of former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

The bombs sent to the Clinton residence in Chappaqua, New York, and Mr. Obama’s home in Washington, were both intercepted by the US secret service. The return addresses on the suspicious packages were labelled as being from former Democratic National Committee chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, NBC New York reported.

The packages were spotted right away during routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices, and were appropriately handled as dangerous. The Secret Service issued a statement that read, “The protectees did not receive the packages, nor were they at risk of receiving them.”

The Secret Service also said they “initiated a full scope criminal investigation that will leverage all available federal, state, and local resources, to determine the source of the packages and identify those responsible.”

“We are fine, thanks to the men and women of the secret service,” Ms. Clinton said Wednesday, adding the package was intercepted by secret service “long before it made its way to our home.”

“As a person, I’m doing great; as an American, I’m worried,” she said.

Wednesday morning, the New York police department also announced another suspicious package that was sent to CNN’s New York offices located inside the Time Warner Headquarters.

FBI officials are reportedly working with local law enforcement to follow any leads in each case, and have been combing over surveillance footage to learn whether the package found at Mr. Soros’ home was hand delivered, or sent by mail. A senior official expressed “concern” over the similarities between the packages discovered at the Clinton and Soros residencies.

Calf Rescuers Arrested

In California you can be charged with grand theft for trying to save a calf’s life.

Three animal activists from Direct Action Everywhere,  who were videoing outside a factory farm in Oakdale, saw the sick calf on top of a pile of dead cows and rescued it.

Officers charged the women with grand theft, which California law defines as taking anything valued over $950, or any farm animal, regardless of value. Ray-Mar Ranches, the farm that dumped the calf, supplies cows to Harris Ranch, and beef to places like Costco and In ‘n Out burgers.

The three women were released the same day on bails of $10,000 each.

Last month, 58 activists were arrested and charged with felonies for attempting to rescue chickens at a Petaluma poultry farm, and to expose the living conditions of animals being sold as free-range and organic.

Eudaly Paying Canvassers

Is increasing voter turnout partisan?

That’s one question being asked in the light of  City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly announcing she would give City employees the option—while being paid by the city—to participate in a get out the vote canvassing on November 2nd.

While critics have pointed out that which districts are canvassed could be politically motivated, Eudaly has said the canvassing will only occur in districts with the lowest turnout in the last three elections.

Oregon law prohibits public employees from political activity, however political activity is defined by the state as taking sides on candidates or ballot measures.
