We present two 80th birthday celebrations this evening, with the music of Gloria Coates and Frederic Rzewski.  The latter famous for decades for his work with Musica Elettronica Viva, Steve Lacy, piano music, operas and political advocacy; the former laboring in obscurity, an occasional performance of her legendary “de-tuning” pieces, and political advocacy.  Numerous works for piano, percussion, prepared harp, de-tuned string quartet and more. On the political advocacy side, Rzewski’s “The People United, Will Never be Defeated,” and Coates’s “The Force for Peace in War” and “Telegram from Dachau.”

Monday, January 29, 8:00 – 10:00 pm (PST) and drifting with the tradewinds through the web of broken dreams.
