For the first time in the event's 30-year history, the Cycle Oregon Classic Ride has been cancelled. The announcement came on Thursday from Steve Schulz, the executive director for Cycle Oregon. He thought of the danger from the existing fires and smoke throughout central and southern Oregon. In a statement, he said that the fires were impacting five of their seven  days with smoke and air quality levels ranging from unhealthy to hazardous. He said he had considered altnernate routes, but the fires were too widespread. Schulz expressed his most sincere apologies to the 2000 dissapointed riders.

The Kenyan Supreme Court has recently nullified a presidential re-election of a sitting president. The people across the Kenyan political landscaped, including the Kenyan president, appeared to accept the decision. The decision came because of irregularities in the voting technology, which led to the possibility of seven million votes being stolen. A top election official in charge of the voting technology had been killed a week before the election, and the electronic transmission of vote tallies was flawed even though the actual vote went in relatively well. The Kenyan Supreme Court did not accuse President Kenyatta of any misconduct. It ruled however that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission failed, neglected and refused to conduct the presidential election in a manner consistent with the dictates of the Constitution.
