Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had hoped to complete the American Health Care Act before the Senate broke for the Fourth of July recess.
Polls showed that Americans were overwhelmingly opposed to the bill, and the Kentucky republican knew that it would be better to get the vote out of the way before Senators returned home to face angry constituents.
But that did not happen.
Yesterday, in the face of strong opposition, McConnell announced that the vote was postponed, and there would be no vote until after the recess.
