Emma Lugo interviews Mara Taylor
Dr. Mara "Coach" Taylor is a leader in prison reform, recognized by the United Nations and social justice organizations all over the globe for her work to help incarcerated people.  She has been creating support systems for prisoners since 2002, using methods that give incarcerated people the tools to make positive decisions. She is the founder of GOGI (rhymes with Yogi, the bear) which stands for Getting Out by Going In, however she'll be the first to tell you that all the GOGI Tools, the books, the meeting formats, the pledge, the national calendar, etc...all were created BY prisoners FOR prisoners.  Over the years, GOGI has virally and organically expanded, transforming the prison culture to be profoundly positive.
Of her many titles ranging from Doctor to Interfaith Minister, the one she prefers most is the one prisoners gave her and the one that is well known throughout the hopeful culture of prisons: Coach Taylor.
