Born and raised in England, Judith Barrington has lived in Portland, Oregon since 1976. She is the author of four poetry collections, two poetry chapbooks, a prizewinning memoir, and a book about writing memoir. Her work is in many anthologies and literary journals, in print and online. She's taught creative writing at universities, workshops, and festivals for many years, both here and in Europe. In 2013 Judith was awarded the Gregory O'Donoghue International Poetry Prize. With her partner Ruth Gundle, she is a founder of The Flight of the Mind Writing Workshops, a series of week-long writing sessions for women on Oregon's wild McKenzie River - as well as Soapstone, which continues to serve women writers in its newest incarnation.
