Emma Lugo will speak with Prison abolition activist Coral Wrap about the long struggle to close the San Francisco municipal jail, transform the culture in municipal San Francisco from incarceration and punishment to critical assessment of community needs and address police/civilian interactions that result in disproportionate criminalization and incarceration of poor people and people of color.

Organizers with the No SF Jail Coalition present a community model for no municipal prisons which could easily be adopted by Oregon counties to abolish county jails and save taxpayers millions of dollars while keeping communities safe through a redirection of county services toward meeting critical community needs rather than incarceration for petty offenses that target the homeless, marginally housed, sex workers, economically impoverished, undocumented workers and nonviolent drug users.
