The Jena Six refers to a group of six black teenagers who were charged with the beating of a white teenager at Jena High School in Jena, Louisiana on December 4, 2006 , although it is believed that the incident began on September first, 2006 when 3 nooses were found hanging from a tree at Jena High School . We use interviews from Democracy Now to describe the incident, and talk to Kevin Fuller, Founder and Executive Director of the Bridge Builders, and Alpha Tessema, junior, Jesuit High School, a member of the Prospective Gents, who sponsored a Jena Six Fundraiser and Vigil on September 20th in Portland.
