Actress and Author Lauren Weedman's new book "Miss Fortune"
Dmae features actress and author Lauren Weedman who will be in Portland do a reading of her new book, Miss Fortune: Fresh Perspectives on Having It All From Someone Who is Not Okay at 7:30 p.m. March 22 at Powell's City of Books, 1005 W. Burnside St.March 22nd in Portland.Weedman's new show Lauren Weedman Doesn't Live Here Anymore  is slated for Portland Center Stage's 2016-17 season on March 17  through April 30, 2017. Her previous shows there were Bust and The People's Republic of Portland.
 
Miss Fortune is a collection of poignant and humorous essays. Especially touching are the essays about the beginning of her marriage with an unexpected proposal, the birth of their child and the marriage's painful dissolution. The book also describes her experiences as a new mom with gripping detail and insightful wit. She also writes with moving details the insecurity and pathos she felt getting to know her birth mom.
 
The book isn't for anyone easily offended because Weedman bares it all literally in revealing her one awkward three-way experience, and she can be scatalogical with description. Still there's no denying she's an exceptional writer who dares to go for the laugh while unafraid to mine her own pain

 
More about the author: Lauren Weedman, former Daily Show correspondent and acclaimed star of HBO’s Looking. Her first show, Homecoming, began as a 15 minute performance art piece at Seattle’s On the Boardsand went on to go off-Broadway in NYC. Bust, about her work in the L.A. county jail, was awarded a Macdowell Fellowship for playwriting by the Alpert Awards, as well as several “best of the arts” across the nation. Lauren has written and performed 9 solo plays including Homecoming,Amsterdam, If Ornaments Had Lips, Huu, Rash, Wreckage, Bust, and No… You Shut Up, which was commissioned by Boise Contemporary Theater. More recently, she created and performed The People’s Republic of Portland for Portland Center Stage.
 
Her television credits include The Daily Show, True Blood, United States of Tara,Reno 911, Curb Your Enthusiasm, New Girl, Arrested Development. She was Doris on HBO’s Looking, and appeared as Horny Patty on HBO’s Hung. Film credits include Imagine That, Date Night, Judd Apatow’s A Five Year Engagement starring Jason Segal, and The Gambler.
