On August 20, 2013, at 11.30am Joseph Gallivan interviews Dawson W. Carr, who is the Portland Art Museum's Janet and Richard Geary Curator of European Art.
Dawson Carr joined the museum in January 2013 as the Museum’s first full-time curator of European painting and sculpture. He came from The National Gallery, London where he was Curator of Spanish and Italian Paintings 1600–1800. Before that he was a curator at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
In Portland he is in charge of the European galleries upstairs at the museum, and is tasked with the organization of exhibitions and the development of the collection, and making old masters of interest to young people.
Joseph Gallivan has been a reporter since 1990. He has covered music for the London Independent, technology for the New York Post, and arts and culture for the Portland Tribune.
