Art Focus with guest Christopher Rauschenberg

Joseph Gallivan will interview photographer Christopher Rauschenberg about Museum, his show of recent photographs which runs at the Elizabeth leach Gallery January 3 to February 2, 2013.

For his photographs, Christopher Rauschenberg takes inspiration from his daily life and extensive travels. A recent journey to St. Petersburg gave rise to Museum, a series of photographs that capture arresting and absurd moments in the still reverence of museum settings. Rauschenberg creates unexpected juxtapositions of the unaltered every day, captured glances that illustrate wit and beauty that is often overlooked. His quietly scintillating compositions draw the viewer into an environment that allows for greater investigation and contemplation.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Rauschenberg was educated at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Rauschenberg has been exceptionally active in the Northwest arts community. He taught for many years at Marylhurst College in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Thirty- five years ago he co-founded and is the current co-curator and Board Chairman of Portland’s non-profit Blue Sky Gallery. He also co-founded and is a current member of Portland co-op Nine Gallery. His work has been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA), Chicago Cultural Center (Chicago, IL), International Center of Photography (New York, NY), and the George Eastman House (Rochester, NY), among others.

Christopher Rauschenberg will also shed some light on his father Robert's work.

Selected Prints from Robert Rauschenberg will be on view at the same gallery from January 3 through March 2.
