So does Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' Law prtect everyone from prosecution? Is it a license to kill for whites only (Oh come on. George Zimmerman is a white guy. Don't give me that "He's Hispanic!" - Look at the man. And perhaps this is as good a time as any to point out that Mexico is run by people with very light skin - the descendants of European conquerors, colonists, Company Men. Light is Right in Mexico and many other Latin american nations. The much darker indigenous people are referred to (When they arespoken of at all ) as 'Indios'. the word has the same charge South of the Border that the 'N' word has here in the Land of Opportunity. And as in America, so down Soutth, the darker the skin, the fewer the opportunities. And the greater the distrust. We try hard not to see things this way.
In Florida racism is right there on the surface. Despite denials and assertions to the contrary, it's a fact of life.
Now let's get back to the ''Stand Your Ground Law': if it applies to George Zimmerman - what ever his ancestry might be - then surely it must apply to other Floridians...Say for example if a young Black man feels threatened at the store near his home, Open Fire! The law's on your side. The NRA and its friends at ALEC - they would represent a threat, No? Crazed Fundamentalist preachers? Threat! Newt Gingrich? Threat! Right-wing Talk Show Hosts? Threat!

Which brings me to the Rogers Cyber Security Bill. Don't let thisone pass. Heed the words of the ACLU, the electronic Frontier Foundations and so many millions of others whose l,ives wou;ld come crashing down if this passes. It could mean the end of the Internet as we know it. Seriously.
