Growing up Mormon and Queer

While religous belief and expression is a comfort to some, for others it can create confusion, misery and chaos. Such is the experience of many queer people who were raised Mormon. For this membership drive special of Out Loud, hear the stories of queer identified folks who come from a culture dominated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We'll hear the story of Joseph Dallin, who wrote a book about his experiences. This show was broadcast during the 2012 Winter Membership drive. If you become a member by 02/18/12 you may be able to recieve a copy of Joe's book as a thank you gift.

Later in the show we’ll hear the stories of two trans men, one who was accepted by his family, the other ... well not so much. We’ll also hear an excerpt of “Voices in Exile: Stories of Lesbian Mormons.”

How did Joseph and others cope with being members of a church that has spent millions of dollars fighting LGBT equality? How has their Mormon background influenced their current beliefs regarding religion and spirituality? Listen now to find out. Also, while your listening to this show, remember that we need your help keeping this program on the air by becoming a member of KBOO.
