Desert King fig, a San Pedro variety
leggy tomato seedlings
The main impediment to starting healthy tomato seedlings inside a house is lack of light. We've got experience and ideas to overcome this condition.

Host Glen Andresen and co-pilot Jim Gilbert are once again in the studio for a live show. Time to start just about all seeds inside and many outside. But still not time to plant warm season crops outside. Patience is warranted. And we offer tips on planting potted plants--it's not just take it out of the pot and plop it in a hole. And tips on raising young vegetable seedlings without a greenhouse.

As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (San Pedro figs) and a new Garden Stumper--the first caller with the correct answer gets a free sharpening of a gardening hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland. Our musical theme this month honors  Earth Day. Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term is "top dressing." And finally, what Glen is trying to understand this month.

Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. And, surprise, this is the same email to use to answer The Garden Stumper this month.

The Dirtbag, a garden variety show... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
