The Portland Book Festival is not only our city’s biggest literary event, and one of the most popular on the entire West Coast, but a great way for local writers to meet and make connections. Our In Depth guests tonight, Dao Strom and Alicia Jo Rabins, are a case in point.
Dao is a poet, musician, writer, and artist. She’s the author/composer of several works, including the poetry-art collection “Instrument”, its musical companion of song-poems “Traveler’s Ode”, and the forthcoming “Tender Revolutions/Yellow Songs”.
Alicia is a writer, musician, composer, and performer. She’s the creator and performer of “Girls in Trouble”, a song cycle about the lives of Biblical women, and “A Kaddish for Bernie Madoff”, a one-woman chamber-rock opera that was adapted into an award-winning feature film.
Dao and Alicia met at the 2021 Portland Book Festival, while doing a session on-stage at the Newmark Theatre. They found a lot of common ground, as writers and musicians, and started collaborating on a new music EP, titled “Wild Life”. Dao and Alicia will be celebrating the release of that EP, tomorrow Wednesday April 2nd at Turn! Turn! Turn! in NE Portland.
We have Dao and Alicia, live in the KBOO studios, to preview the launch.
