International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31 #EndOverdose

This week on Century of Lies: Effective, Practical, and Sustainable Harm Reduction.

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized and conducted a two-day virtual public workshop Jan. 30 and 31 entitled “Harm Reduction Services for People Who Use Drugs: Exploring Data Collection, Evidence Gaps, and Research Needs.” Twenty years ago the very term “harm reduction” was considered taboo by the feds so this was truly a landmark event. On this edition of Century we hear from one of the speakers, Ricky N. Bluthenthal, PhD, Associate Dean for Social Justice and Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and a Professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences and the Institute for Prevention Research in the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.
