Judy BlueHorse Skelton (Nez Perce/Cherokee), Assistant Professor at Portland State University (PSU) and Emma Johnson (Cowlitz), Senior Instructor at Portland State University, both in the Indigenous Nations Studies Department discuss their collaborative work in Indigenous Traditional Ecological and Cultural Knowledge (ITECK), which provides a counterpoint to the western worldview, which places humans separate from Mother Earth. They discuss PSU’s new ITECK certificate, a place-based and community-based curriculum that centers our plant-based relatives, decolonizes academia, supports tribal food sovereignty, and offers people a chance to better connect with the landscape they call home.
