Views, Reviews, and Interviews from a Socialist-Feminist, Anti-racist, Anti-colonial and LGBTQ-positive Perspective

Patricia Kullberg hosts this episode of the Old Mole which features a re-broadcast from Against the Grain.

What is the relationship between things held in Common — from rivers and forests, to traditions of sharing and mutual aid — and communism? How should we understand the connection between the Commons within class society and life after capitalism? Sasha Lilley speaks with Historian Peter Linebaugh about the history of the idea of Communism, the very different history of enclosure, and the influence of the Commons and egalitarian indigenous ideas on the work of Karl Marx. Linebaugh’s new book about the Commons is entitled Stop Thief! The Commons, Enclosures and Resistance.

Against the Grain is a weekly radio show hosted and produced by Sasha Lilley and C.S Soong on KPFA Pacifica Radio in Berkley, California. It’s a program of ideas, in-depth analysis, and commentary on political, economic, social, and cultural issues important to radical thinking and activism.
