Interview with David Nez

On the program today an artist who is a well-known in Europe, someone who has spent years studying and writing about the ancient and historical roots of shamanism, magic, and myth.  He makes sense of this rich history in a comprehensive book Tree of Visions: Visionary Traditions of the Western World—Shamanism, Magic and Myth from Prehistory to the Present. David is also an art therapist who has worked for many years a clinic in Portland, Oregon, where he helps to heal mental illness through artistic expression. 

David studied art in Slovenia--in former Yugoslavia in the late 60's, and lived at the spiritual community of Findhorn in the 70's. He has studied western ceremonial magic, herbal alchemy and astrology, neo-shamanistic techniques and buddhist meditation, as well as eastern philosophy —for over four decades. He was one of the founding members of Lodge Rosa Stellaris, a Hermetic group in Portland, Oregon. He has published essays in Hermetic Tablet and The Arts and Psychotherapy. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the USA and Europe, including the 2017 Venice Biennale. In 2023, his work was exhibited in Dubai and Rhode Island. He has plans for exhibits in Slovenia in 2024.
