The oil & gas industry is turning to unproven and unregulated “gas certifiers” like Project Canary that claim to “measure” emissions and label their methane gas as “responsibly sourced”. The certified gas industry allows companies to charge a premium for their products, and have helped reverse the trend of investors shying away from new gas projects, including LNG buildout, claiming their gas is “clean.”
On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Lorne Stockman, research co-director with Oil Change International and co-author of a just-released study, “Certified Disaster” about how certifying methane gas emissions as “responsibility sourced” is the latest boondoggle from the fossil fuel industry.
