Dmae Roberts talks with Bill Foster about PIFF, and we hear a second installment of Writers Read

Travel the world in 16 days through the Portland International Film Festival. Now in it's 34th year, PIFF draws more than 35,000 people each year to several venues in Portland to watch more than 100 films from all over the globe. Host Dmae Roberts talks with Bill Foster, executive director of the Northwest Film Center who puts the festival together each year.

About a dozen films will be reviewed and highlighted in this segment of Stage & Studio. Some of the films discussed include:

Incendies (Canada), an Oscar-nominated film about a pair of twins who travel back to Lebanon to uncover their mother's tragic history (photo featured above).

Of Gods and Men

Of Gods and Men (France), portrayal of brotherhood among monks during the Algerian Civil War in the 1990s.

Certified Copy (France) featuring Juliet Binoche in an exploration of relationships and art in the Tuscany countryside.

Some Days Are Better Than Others (US) Filmed in Portland with Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia), this drama follows the stories of three low-income and under-employed people finding their way.

Sawako Decides (Japan), a coming-of-age tale of a temp worker returns to her hometown when her dad becomes ill.

Circo (Mexico) cinematic road movie of a small traveling circus.

Barbershop Punk (US), documentary about an engineer in Hillsboro, OR whose discovery about Comcast's internet blocking led to the fight for net neutrality.
