Her name is Soha, a French contemporary R&B singer who signed with Virgin Music back in 2007 and quickly released her debut album D'Ici et d'Ailleurs with a re-release in 2008. She hails from Marseille and has Jazz, Blues, Soul, Jamaican Reggae and Latin influences sprinkled throughout her repretoire of music. I discovered her music during my recent trip to Paris and of these three songs that I played:
- Tourbillon (Serre-Moi Fort Si Tu M'Aimes) which starts off in Spanish
- C'est Bien Mieux Comme Ça has a reggae beat and
- On Ne Saura Jamais has a hip-hop feel
...this past Saturday, December 5, 2009, my favorite quickly became C'est Bien Mieux Comme Ça because you get the full sampling of her diverse flavor and joy for the music. Oh, wait, and there's Cafe Bleu which is sensual. Soha deserves to be in the Spotlight on my show and others, so check her out and learn more about her.
"D'ici et d'Ailleurs has sold more than 50,000 copies in France. And Soha's debut was a nominee this year as best world music album in France." PRI The World
