One never likes to rush into an important decision, though I suppose it is also true that 22 years is hardly rushing. The KBOO Foundation has been extremely good to me over the years and I am terrifically grateful to you, to our colleagues on staff, our volunteers, and directors.

Job Title: Director of Underwriting

Reports to: Station Manager
Employment Status: Non-exempt Hours: 25 hours per week

General Description: To solicit and oversee underwriting and online advertising.

Qualifications
 Portland sales experience preferred.
 Experience in community or public radio preferred.
 Must be pleasant, personable, able to get along with a variety of people, and able to represent KBOO in an informed, positive manner.
 Must be able to travel offsite to meet with clients
 Must be able to meet deadlines, work flexible hours, and handle stress.
 Computer skills.
Essential Functions
 Solicit underwriting and on-line advertising.
 Ensure we’re fulfilling our underwriting agreements.
 Determine content of underwriting announcements and on-line ads.
 Enter into underwriting and on-line ad contracts subject to review by the Station Manager.
 Work with Program Director to schedule broadcasting of announcements.
 Oversee display of on-line ads.
 Oversee collection process.
 Meet budgeted minimums for underwriting and on-line ad sales.
 Script underwriting announcements subject to review by Station Manager.
 Provide Finance Department, Program Director, and Station Manager with copies of all underwriting contracts.
 Propose rates to Station Manager.
 Comply with KBOO’s underwriting policy and consult with Station Manager on questions and problems.
 Work to implement KBOO’s Affirmative Action Policy.
 attend staff meetings as appropriate
 Other duties as assigned.

Salary
The Underwriting Coordinator is a part-time position and also receives a percentage of sales of underwriting. Base pay is $11.80 per hour for up to 25 hours per week. Commissions are based on payments received during any month. Employee receives 15% commission on the first $2,000 of payments received and 20% on additional payments during any single month. Employee also receives a 5% commission on underwriting trades.

Probationary Period KBOO is a union shop and all (non management) staff are members of Communications Workers of America (CWA)- Local 7901. Any person hired will be required to join and pay dues to CWA Local 7901 after 90 days. There is a six month probationary period. This period is not to be construed as a contract.

Benefits
Benefits include medical and dental coverage, disability and life insurance, and credit union eligibility. This position also offers paid vacation, sick leave, an annual personal day and 11 paid holidays per year, in accordance with KBOO Employee Benefits Policy. Eligibility for the pension plan is one year after the date of hire. Distribution is determined at the end of the fiscal year following the eligibility date and is pro-rated.

Working Conditions
There are approximately 10 fulltime employees, over 400 volunteers, and over 50,000 listeners. The atmosphere is hectic and stimulating. The ability to work in this kind of environment is essential. KBOO has regular membership drives.
