0911 CA California law for renewable energy
California Governor Jerry Brown has signed into law a bill that commits California, the world’s fifth largest economy, to 100 percent clean energy by 2045.
He also issued an executive order establishing a new target to achieve carbon neutrality.
Earthjustice partnered with a diverse coalition of advocates across the state to push the California legislature to pass the law.
The groups are now celebrating their victory, and urging other states to follow California’s example.

The border between Ethiopia and Eritrea has been reopened.
Troops from both countries have withdrawn from the shared border after two decades of tension.
This move follows the signing of a formal declaration of peace by Ethiopian Prime Mininster Abiy Ahmed [AH-BEE AH-MED] and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki [ISS-EYE-ASS AFF-WER-KEE].
They have now created a path for trade between the two nations.
The leaders also celebrated the Ethiopian new year together before opening another border crossing point between the towns of Zalambesa and Serha.

0911 INT Global fossil fuel divestment movement growing
The global fossil fuel divestment movement released a new report on Monday showcasing an incredible growth in scale and impact for the movement.
According to the Global Fossil Fuel Divestment and Clean Energy Investment Movement report compiled by Arabella Advisors, close to one-thousand institutional investors with 6.24 trillion dollars in assets have committed to divest from fossil fuels.
This is 120 times as much as the $52 billion pledged just four years ago.
Since it was first launched by students as a moral call to climate action in 2011, the fossil fuel divestment movement has grown tremendously in impact and scope, with new divestment commitments from a broad array of institutions.
In 2018, the movement also saw new growth outside the United States and Europe, with divestment commitments from Pakistan, India, Fiji and Bangladesh.
350-dot-org and partners are planning a Global Divestment Conference in South Africa in 2019 to spark even more commitments from institutions across the Global South.

0911 INT Hunters of Man-eating tigress can shoot to kill, Indian court rules
A tiger in India known as T-one, has been roaming around villages killing cows horses and even farmers.
T-one is believed to have killed 13 people.
The tiger has also been captured 4 times but has escaped each time.
The tiger drags her victims out to the cotton fields and leaves them in shreds.
Villagers are terrified and pressure is rising for authorities to kill the creature.
The hunt could begin this week but tigers are endangered so it is necessary to go through strict requirements before they can be killed.
Wildlife activists say she has killed only in self-defense and that all of her victims were “killed in the forest” says Anand Grover, a lawyer for wildlife advocates.
Forestry officials passed an order last week saying they preferred to capture the animal, but they would shoot to kill if catching it wasn’t possible.
Saliva tests taken from victims wounds prove that T-one is responsible for killing more than seven people.
Kartik Shukul, a government lawyer says “no other animal could have consumed these people; there aren’t even any leopards in the area.”
Activists tried arguing the tigress had not eaten all of her victims and that it is the villagers fault for venturing into her territory.
A two- judge panel listened and decided to allow the forestry official’s plan, which allows them to kill T-one if a concerted effort to capture her fails.
They are hoping to bait her with a chunk of fresh buffalo meat, tranquilize her and then put her in a zoo.
They expect to begin this military-style operation later this week.

0911 OR Man Found Not Guilty Oregon Innocence Project
An Oregon man has been freed from a fifty-year jail sentence.
In 2017, forty-two year old Joshua Horner was convicted of alleged child sexual abuse.
The complaint said that Horner shot a pet Labrador in front of the girl to prevent her from reporting the abuse to law enforcement.
However, the dog was discovered alive with new owners by the Oregon Innocence Project.
The non-profit organization said their review of the trial raised QUOTE “several red flags.”
Horner insisted the dog was still alive.
Oregon Innocence Project investigators found the dog miles away with new owners on the state’s coast.
A state Court of Appeals decision allowed Horner to be freed in August.
In a statement released by the Oregon Innocence Project, Horner said he and his wife are QUOTE “ready to pick up the pieces of our lives.”

The Oregon Air National Guard, or “ORANG,” has been increasing the number of practice fighter jet landing maneuvers over Northeast Portland neighborhoods in recent years.
The maneuvers are both loud and lengthy.
An Overhead Continuous Descent Approach, or OCDA, is a corkscrew-like maneuver where a plane, usually an F-fifteen or F-sixteen, lowers to the ground while remaining above the same small area, rather than descending slowly over a long distance like a normal commercial jet.
Andrew Pritchard is an activist with the group No Jets Portland, who stopped by KBOO last week and spoke to reporter Sam Bouman about recent efforts to combat the use of OCDAs over residential areas.

0911US Donald Trump Fist pumping at 9/11 memorial
President Donald Trump arrived in Pennsylvania for a memorial service Tuesday honoring the lives lost on United 93, where he decided to pump his fists in the air.
Viceland writes, On September 11th, 2001, during the hours following the terror attacks that killed almost 3,000 innocent people in New York, DC, and Pennsylvania, Donald Trump called into a local news station, bragging about how the fall of the Twin Towers means his building was now the tallest in lower Manhattan.
17 years later, Trumps position is now President and he still has not respectfully addressed the biggest American tragedy of his lifetime. His attitude on Tuesday did not seem to fit such a sad and somber day.
Trump started the morning by tweeting about Collusion which had nothing to do with 9/11.
He then after quickly retweeted a post about 9/11 and then continued rambling messages about Rudy Giuliani.
He then tweeted QUOTE “I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11th.”
It is very strange but not a surprise that Donald Trump the President of the United States, is fist pumping and giving thumbs up during the 9/11 memorial.

0911 US Hurricane Florence
1.5 million residents are now under orders to evacuate their homes in preparation for Hurricane Florence's landfall in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
The region faces the possibility of catastrophe should the storm damage one or more of the nuclear power plants which lie in its potential path.
There at least 5 nuclear power plants in the projected path of Hurricane Florence and more are at risk from the storm surge.
All are decades old. Many are the exact same model as the failed Fukushima reactors that went into meltdown after they were flooded by a tsunami.
Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall on Thursday.
