0831 US Trump Threatens DOJ and FBI
Donald Trump appears to have taken his attacks on the Department of Justice and the FBI to the next level.
Speaking to his base at yet another of his campaign style rallies, the president said that the DOJ and FBI must QUOTE “start doing their job and doing it right or I will get involved.”
He made the comments Thursday evening while addressing a crowd of enthusiastic followers in Evansville, Indiana.
Trump has repeatedly criticized the FBI for its ongoing investigation of Russian influence in the 2016 election campaign which he repeatedly characterized as a witch hunt.
He has also criticized the DOJ and its leadership for allowing the investigation to continue.
He has often stated that he would not have picked Sessions to lead the Justice Department as Attorney General if he’d known in advance that Sessions would recuse himself from that investigation.
He repeated his charge that the DOJ should be investigating Hillary Clinton – his 2016 presidential rival – prompting the crowd to chant QUOTE “U – S – A” and “Lock Her Up”.
He also enflamed the crowd by claiming that the DOJ is unfairly biased against Republicans.
Trump has stated that the Attorney General’s job is safe until at least the mid-term elections, but many believe Session’s will be fired by the president soon after that.

Just over a month ago Portland Police evicted the Occupy Camp at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, commonly known as ‘ICE’.
The South West Portland camp was a protest against the immigration policies of the Trump administration and lasted about five weeks.
And the protests continue: yesterday twenty-two faith leaders were arrested at the ICE offices; and the Occupy ICE camp is maintaining a presence at City Hall.
KBOO’s Joe Meyer biked downtown today and filed this report.

0831 US Post Confirms Disproportionate Police Killings
On Wednesday, The Washington Post verified a suspicion that many Americans have harbored for years.
The relatively low-profile story confirmed that a disproportionate number of people of color have been killed by police in recent years.
Using data from a variety of sources, the Post documented every QUOTE “line-of-duty” police killing in 2014 and 2015.
Their analysis authenticated nearly 2,000 non-accidental police killings during those two years.
During the period covered 62 per cent of the population was identified as white, but only 51 per cent of the victims of police shootings were white.
Conversely, although African-Americans only represent about 18 per cent of the population, they accounted for 28 per cent of the victims.
Latinos were also over-represented in the grim statistic although to a lesser degree than blacks.
Latinos were killed by police at a rate about one point five percent higher than would be expected.
Less than one percent of the victims were described as unarmed, but over one third of the weapons were identified as knives or bats.
One of the clear takeaways from the analysis is that the over-representation of blacks is as a direct result of over-policing in black neighborhoods.
The Post article concludes by stating that QUOTE “Reducing these deaths may require different approaches to policing in the United States.”

0831 INT El Salvador Says Children Abused
On Thursday, Officials in El Salvador claimed that three minors from that country were sexually abused while in Arizona shelters.
The minors had been separated from their parents under the Trump Administration’s Zero Tolerance immigration policy, after crossing the border.
The charges were made by Liduvina Magarin – the deputy foreign relations minister for Salvadorans overseas.
The children ranged in age from 12 to 17.
Magarin said QUOTE “There are sexual violations and sexual abuse”, and noted that the government had received the reports of abuse from workers at the shelters.
The Salvadoran government is pushing the U.S. to reunify children with their families.
The urged that that the children leave the shelters as soon as possible because of their vulnerability while in captivity.
Magarin said the three minors were in good health but that QUOTE “the psychological and emotional impact is forever, and we are attending to that situation.” END QUOTE
In late July, the news website ProPublica reported that police had received at least 125 reports since 2014 of sex offenses at shelters that mostly house migrant children.
